Weekly Schedule for New Plantings

Your new plantings will need about 1 inch of water per week for the FIRST YEAR.

Week 1 - 2

Water EVERY SINGLE Day

Week 3 - 4

Water EVERY OTHER Day

Week 5+

Water EVERY 2 Days

Set your nozzle to: SHOWER MODE

The best time to water is early in the morning, between 6am – 10am.

Non Woody Plants

10 seconds per plant

Shrubs

20 seconds per plant

Trees

30 seconds per tree

Clay Soil Reminder: Many SE Michigan yards have clay that retains moisture. Before watering, push your finger 2–3 inches into the soil. If it feels damp/cool, skip that day. Overwatering in clay can suffocate roots and cause rot.

after the initial month of watering, CONTINUE WATERING:

Spring

3 times minimum per week

IF it does not rain

Summer

When it's hot, WATER DAILY

When temperatures exceed 85°, water 2x a day.

Fall

3 times per week

IF it does not rain - until the leaves fall off.

💧 DID YOU KNOW?💧

90% of new plant deaths in the first year are caused by improper watering — not pests or poor soil. Consistent watering is the #1 key to success.

Check all plants weekly

For newly planted plants, check every few days during the first two weeks. After that, inspect them every 7–10 days. If you notice anything unusual—such as spots, insect damage, or chewed leaves—let us know. We can either recommend what to purchase or stop by to treat the issue (additional charges may apply).

The FIRST YEAR of watering is ABSOLUTELY CRUCIAL to your plants survival before becoming established.

Graceland Gardens is not responsible for the replacement of plants that are damaged or killed due to improper watering, pests, insect infestations, extreme or abnormal weather, or any other conditions beyond our control. We also do not replace plants experiencing normal seasonal die-back, as proper care and pruning typically restore plant health. All plants installed with a Graceland Gardens irrigation system that is actively monitored receive a 1-year plant warranty. NO WARRANTY is offered for any plants installed WITHOUT a Graceland Gardens irrigation system or for systems that are not monitored by Graceland Gardens.
